Poverty Simulation

Here is why you should sign-up?

As believers we are called to be of grace and compassion seasoned with truthfulness and love. Honestly, it is difficult to live out in many situations. The Neighbors team would like to give you an opportunity to grow in grace and compassion while delivering those truthful and loving messages to those in our personal spheres.

We would like to invite you to an event on May 4th at 10am called the Poverty Experience Simulator. This event takes place over approximately 2 hours. During those 2 hours, you will be assigned a difficult life situation and be given choices to navigate your assigned situation. You will then experience the consequences, good or bad, from your choices.

The purpose of this exercise is to shed light on our own bias and help foster genuine grace and compassion for those in difficult situations, namely those with meager financial means or less supportive friend and family environments.

How do you know this sort of exercise would be of benefit to your walk with Jesus and interaction with our community? Answer these questions:

  • Have you ever been unable to go to work because you literally had NO childcare?
  • Have you ever skipped out on utility payments or driven without car insurance because you had to fix your car to get to work?

These might not seem like huge issues to some of us but that’s the point. For some, these situations create a chain of difficult choices that make navigating money, relationships, and employment exhausting.

If you still aren’t sure, scan the QR code and experience a mini experience. Do all the “right things” and see how many days you can last before your resources run out.

If you are interested, please sign up at the Ministry Connections Desk or at RockPrairie.net/forms by April 14th. We need at least 70 people to participate so after April 14th the remaining spots will be offered to other churches in our community. All participants must be at least 15 years old. Lunch will be served. The Neighbors team is very excited to be a part of this event and hope that you will join them in it.
