Family Ministry

4 “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

At Rock Prairie, we believe that the primary venue for discipleship is the home. In essence, the family should function as a tiny church with parents (heads of household) being primarily responsible for the discipleship of those living in their home. But it works both ways, since the broader church also serves as an extended family, where those from your home can be discipled through a rich pool of multi-generational and multi-cultural relationships. One function of the church is to encourage and equip families in their discipleship process.

Presently, we offer:

Premarital Counseling – Groom and Bride are challenged, through a minimum of 6 sessions, to develop a Biblical view of marriage and family, as well as the importance of being a committed part of a faith community.

Child Dedication workshop– During this 1 hour workshop, Father and Mother are challenged with what it means to raise their children in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord”.

Leading Your Child to Christ Workshop– During this 1 hour workshop, Father and Mother are proactively engaged to consider signs that indicate a child’s readiness to make a faith commitment.

The Transition to Adolescence– This all-day workshop is for parents and their pre-teens. It involves brief lectures, followed by private family discussions, family-oriented games, a panel discussion during which parents and pre-teens can ask questions of seasoned veterans (both parents and their adult children who have successfully navigated the pre-teen years while remaining faithful to the Lord), a parents only discussion during which you will learn how to talk to your children about sexuality, and to top it all off – two delicious meals!

Truthfully, the Rock Prairie Family ministry is “under construction” as we are currently developing many more resources to equip families for discipleship throughout all stages of life. Stay tuned!
